Marika Pentikäinen has worked for 15 years in the School of Computing at the University of Eastern Finland (formerly the University of Kuopio). Her special focus has been human work activities and human factors in information system projects. She has taught computer use to premedical students and information system design to future software professionals. Her research interest lies in creating development and modelling methods for enhanced user-friendly information systems. Her thesis draws on the experience of sustained involvement in health information system projects over many years. An Activity-Driven information system development model was created and tested in the PlugIT, ZipIT and MyWellbeing, health and information systems development projects, implemented between 2001 and 2013. These focused on enhancing for example such areas as home care, maternity care, X-ray department and patient information systems.
